DON’T I HAVE TO BE FLEXIBLE TO DO YOGA, OR AT LEAST BE ABLE TO MOVE WITHOUT PAIN?

I will help you use equipment such as chairs, blocks, bolsters, blankets, and other “props” which allow all body types to be in therapeutic poses. Through yoga, you may also be able to better manage your pain.

DO I NEED SPECIAL CLOTHES OR EQUIPMENT?

You can wear anything that allows you to move comfortably. All mats and equipment are provided.

WHAT IF I AM HOME BOUND?

I offer sessions in your home or at a private, Sacramento or Roseville studio. I also offer yoga therapy through Skype and/or Facetime if you are not within traveling distance.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR THE YOGA TO HELP ME?

Healing through yoga is a gradual and individual process. Some people feel better after the first session. Others take longer to notice a change in their health.

WILL I HAVE TO PRACTICE EVERY DAY? AND WHAT IF I CAN’T REMEMBER THE EXERCISES?

How often you practice will depend on your injury or illness, limitations and your determination. I write down the series of poses and other yogic techniques during your sessions. I then email a copy to you, complete with descriptions of exercises and illustrations.

WHEN DO I HAVE TO BE AVAILABLE?

I offer private sessions weekdays and evenings. In special circumstances, I offer sessions on Saturdays. I recommend at least two sessions (a week apart) to “get you going.” My goal for you is for you not to be dependent on me as your yoga therapist, but to provide you with enough tools that you can continue to do yoga on your own, or join one of my group classes.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Single sessions are $85. If you pre-pay, four sessions are $300.00 if used within 10 weeks. Discounts are given for couples and pairs. I offer a sliding scale by request.

BUT THIS SOUNDS WAY TOO EXPENSIVE...

Investing in your health can be challenging, especially if you are unfamiliar with the therapy. Some people have gotten a few of their friends together who have similar ailments and arranged for “semi-private” sessions at a lower rate.

DO YOU TAKE INSURANCE?

I do not take insurance, because if I did, I would not be able to spend the 1.25 hours or more with you that it takes to attend to your needs. I do take worker’s compensation, but sessions are limited to 45 minutes.

For questions or to arrange for a private session telephone myself, Simone Palmieri, at 916-715-3225, or email: pauseforapose@gmail.com.

**Note: I am currently looking for grants to fund a “Yoga  Retreat for CFIDS/FM.” If you know of any possible funding sources, please contact me.**

If you have a physical or mental health condition, private instruction is a safe way to reintroduce your body to movement and help it regain strength and stamina. It can also encourage you to develop a habit of doing yoga in your own home, which is sometimes easier for people with limited mobility or people who feel self conscious about being in a group class. Most importantly, it allows me to examine your daily activities, and movement and breath patterns so that I can design a series of yoga poses and breathing exercises that are specific to your needs.

According to traditional yoga wisdom, as well as medical research, certain yoga postures and breathing techniques can help heal certain conditions. I apply this knowledge during your private sessions.

WHAT WILL YOU DO AS MY YOGA THERAPIST?

As your yoga therapist I will:

  1. Take a full medical history.

  2. Look at the way you sit, stand and walk, and move, to analyze your movement patterns and see if anything you do in your daily life is making your symptoms worse.

  3. Watch how you breathe. Breathing patterns are directly related to our pain and stress response, and can be related to things like anxiety, inflammation and hyperacidity.

  4. Help you decide if there is anything else happening in your life that is contributing to your problems, illness or injury. For example, your working, eating or sleeping habits, relationships, etc.

  5. Be there to listen to you, and figure out how to make you feel better, or how to help you accept your current health limitations and go forward from there.
