I spent a good six months in and out of days like this, before I finally went to Mayo Clinic in Arizona. I received a diagnosis of “dysautonomia,” which is when your autonomic nervous system goes awry. This can happen when your immune system is turned on for a long time, as is the case with chronic fatigue syndrome. Mine was particularly bad. I was sent home with medication that I stopped taking after six days (after researching their side effects), and turned to yoga instead.

After seven years of a dedicated yoga practice, a 500-hr certificate in yoga instruction, and a yoga therapy certification, I now teach therapeutic yoga classes and offer yoga therapy. I treat people with fibromyalgia and CFS as well as many other conditions that limit stamina or movement. Some of the conditions I have been trained to manage with yoga are:

  1. Arthritis

  2. Depression, Anxiety

  3. Knee injuries, replacements

  4. Hip injuries, replacements

  5. Disc herniations

  6. Spinal fusions

  7. Spondylosis, spondylolisthesis

  1. Asthma, COPD

  2. Chronic pain

  3. Insomnia

  4. Parkinson’s disease

  5. Chronic fatigue syndrome/ME

  6. Fibromyalgia

  7. Lupus
